Kent Motorcycles' top tips for winter riding

Our Top Tips for Autumn Riding

We've put together our top tips for riding in the Great British autumn weather!

Don't get wet

Keep the rain at bay

Keep the rain at bay when riding in autumn

For riders who don't let the wet weather put them off, it is important to wear decent and reliable waterproof gear. This can come in the form of textile waterproof protective jackets which are often very versatile, or plastic mac-style overlayers that conveniently pack away.

Beware of the cold

Stay warm and toasty

Wrapping up warm in the colder months is essential so you can stay focussed on the road and the hazards ahead. Don't go creating another one to distract you... Thermals and base layers really help to keep your core body temperature up.

Watch the road

Look where you want to go

Watch the road hen riding in autumn

The autumn brings all sorts of weather, bringing different hazards to the roads such as debris, foliage and slippery diesel spills that hide under puddles. Take extra care and always look toward the vanishing point to ensure you have time to prepare for an approaching hazard.

Don't get a flat

Check your battery and tyres

Don't get a flat battery or tyre when riding in the autumn

If your motorcycle will be sat stationary for a long period of time, your battery and tyres could go flat, whether it is stored in a garage or on your drive. We can sort you out with tyre pressure gauges and battery management systems to keep your bike running!

Know your route

Plan ahead

Plan ahead for road closures and diversions when riding in the autumn

The Great British weather can cause some real drama on the roads with increased traffic, fallen trees, potholes and other hazards that can cause road closures. This means that diversions on your route are more likely, so always have a back-up route planned or a good sat nav to hand!

Be seen

Make yourself stand out

Be seen and wear high-vis clothing in the autumn and winter

As we near the end of the year, it gets dark much quicker, so your route home that used to be in the glorious sunshine will eventually be as dark as night. Make yourself as visible as possible with high-vis accessories and gear. Orange, yellow and pink are said to be the easiest to see.

Ride safe, everyone!

We can introduce you to a selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. An introduction to a lender does not amount to independent financial advice and we act as their agent for this introduction. Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next best offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure the best deal you are eligible for from our panel of lenders. Lenders may pay a fixed commission to us for introducing you to them, calculated by reference to the vehicle model or amount you borrow. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you ask us what the amount of commission is, we will tell you in good time before the Finance agreement is executed. All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18’s or over. Guarantees may be required.
