Hydrogen motorcycles of the future

POSTED: 05/06/2023

Hydrogen engines...
Coming soon?

Honda has formed an association with Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki to research hydrogen engines.

Approval has been granted to form a research body called “HySE” for the development of 'Hydrogen Small Mobility Engines' in order to contribute to a decarbonised society.

The big four put their heads together

Four of the biggest motorcycle manufacturers in the world have come together to research the potential for alternative fuel solutions for motorcycles. Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, and Suzuki have announced that they have received approval from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to form a technological research association called HySE (Hydrogen Small Mobility & Engine Technology) for developing hydrogen-powered engines for small mobility.

A cleaner future

These mighty four are working towards a decarbonised society, researching how alternative energy can be used to power their motorcycles. Rather than focusing on a single energy source, their research and development will be targeted more toward commercialisation of mobility with engines powered by hydrogen.

A wealth of knowledge

Hydrogen has been deemed the next-generation energy source, and its popularity is gaining momentum. The big four plan to commit to researching how their wealth of expertise and technologies in developing gasoline-powered engines can persuade establishing a design standard for small mobility hydrogen-powered engines.

It won't be easy

Hydrogen possesses its own set of challenges. It requires a fast flame speed and a large region of ignition, which can cause unstable combustion and much more limited fuel tank capacity, which will not work for everyone. Riders who chase the sunset are not going to want to compromise on the range of their machines... So how will hydrogen ever work?

We're excited to see what this means for the future of hydrogen!

We can introduce you to a selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. An introduction to a lender does not amount to independent financial advice and we act as their agent for this introduction. Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next best offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure the best deal you are eligible for from our panel of lenders. Lenders may pay a fixed commission to us for introducing you to them, calculated by reference to the vehicle model or amount you borrow. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you ask us what the amount of commission is, we will tell you in good time before the Finance agreement is executed. All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18’s or over. Guarantees may be required.
